The Parkette is part of Lexington history and we are very proud to be a part of it. The Parkette is known all over the country and we are very excited to be able to bring it back to its' glory days. When Joe Smiley opened the Parkette on November 11, 1951, he had a dream. He was a pioneer and visionary in the restaurant industry. Joe created his own version of the double-decker hamburger called the 'Poor Boy'. Joe brought this burger idea with him from West Virginia. He named it after the life that he saw there. Joe said, "When the coal strikes were on, everybody was starving."
